Your Cruise Holiday:
Are you going to make this 4 mistakes?
A cruise holiday seems an out-of-reach goal to many of us, yet, cruises are more affordable than ever before. On the internet it is relatively easy to find low prices for cruises. Now that cruises get into our reach, it is important to make sure that it is really the holiday we dreamed of. Some pitfalls are to be avoided!
In this article we will give you tips on staying within your budget:
- Get an all inclusive priced trip
- Be aware of the bar
- Casino tips
- The Gift Shop: outsmart them
- Sightseeing without Spending
Those who have been on cruises before will tell you that finding a low price on a cruise ticket is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the cost of a cruise. One of the ways to know exactly what you are going to spend on your trip, is booking an all inclusive trip. The price normally includes the stateroom or accommodation, meals taken on board the ship as well as snacks, entertainment, parties, and onboard activities that might include table tennis, basketball and a host of others. It will also include cost of access to onboard discotheques, piano bars, lounges, charges at the port, government taxes and other fees.

Things to keep in mind
If you decide to go on a trip which is not all inclusive, it is important to keep a couple of things in mind. A cruise ship has plenty of activities and places for you to enjoy. Bars, theaters, casinos can quickly add to the cost of your trip. A clever way the cruise line tends to stimulate you to spend more than you were planning, is this: You don't pay for your drinks at the bar. Your drinks are charged to your cabin. That means that you will only discover at the end of your trip how much you spend. Normally drinks are quite expensive on board, so be aware and limiting how much alcohol and fizzies you drink on your trip.
For most of us this will seems like common sense: The casino is another place where you need to seriously watch your cash. When we are on a holiday, however, we seem to forget our normal daily routine, and we tend to do other, and often more risky, things than at home. It is easy to get caught up in the fun of gambling. Make a budget for gambling for your whole trip, break that budget up in daily allowances, and don't spend more than your daily allowance! If you play on the less expensive tables, you will be able to have more fun with the same amount of money.
Buying presents...
Dangerous place to go is the gift shop. We all want to buy a couple of souvenirs for the family at home or ourselves, and the gift shop knows exactly that we will happily spend twice as much on similar items than we would at home. Buy souvenirs in little backstreets that you discover on your own excursions instead, or wait until the last day to buy the often discounted presents then.
Often, your ship will go to one of the harbours of beautiful cities. Of course, it is very tempting to go on shore and have a look. Be careful: sightseeing tours and other activities are not free! If you do a search before you go on the trip, and you organize your own sightseeing trips, you will have more fun and in the end more money in your pocket! If you make friends during the trip, they will enjoy going with you insetad of with the organized excursion, and you will have original photos and memories from the trip.
It is very possible to enjoy your cruise just with everything that comes included in the price. Make sure that you put yourself in the right mindset before you go on board, and remind yourself and your traveling partners of the same regularly. Your traveling partners will be of great help to keep your budget within the limits if you ask them. Most people love to help someone else, especially if it makes them feel useful and wanted!
